U-Haul "Minibar" - Dolly and pads, if you want'em...

Last weekend was The Big Move for my brother-and-sister-in-law into their new house (congrats, Josh and Amy!), and I was among the horde of family and friends on hand to help out. One thing I discovered that seemed to be new, at least since the last time I rented a U-Haul moving truck, is shown in the photo - a moving dolly and furniture pads, attached to the inside of the truck with little plastic zip ties (barely visible, shown by the arrows). And guess what? It's essentially a minibar! Just break the seals and you'll be charged the rental fee for those accessories. This is a great idea - moving truck companies always offer these tools for rent, but you usually need to decide ahead of time and pick them up at the rental office. Having them right there in the truck, tempting you, waiting to be used, probably snags quite a few more people who didn't initially realize how useful they would be. Now, if the truck could just stock the other kind of minibar, they'd really have something going...

I think it's great idea in concept, but poorly executed. Because they are attached right at the door, I found that they constantly got in the way as we tried to load and unload large items. And of course they take up space, which may be precious for someone trying to squeeze everything into a single load. I just found it frustrating that I didn't want to use them (or pay for them) because I had my own, but there's no way to move them out of the way. It's what I refer to as "a good idea gone bad".

David, excellent point - I totally agree, they're right in the main traffic zone for getting stuff into and out of the truck! Of course, maybe that's part of the ploy - people will break the seals and pay the rental fee just to get them out of the way! I like the way you put it, "a good idea gone bad" - I'll have to remember that one!

Ahaha,
I can`t help laughing) You are a talented master in the moving, think only! I would not have risked my furniture with nerves and something like that.
Therefore, the unanimous decision in the family was still to turn to the mover's company https://www.moveprola.com/studio-city-movers/. For sure I would not be able as skillfully as you transport ... a mini bar! My admiration for your job, guy))
