Hummer Parking - Which way's worse?
I snapped this photo a while back, and blurred the license plate to protect the offender (though maybe I shouldn't have?), but here's a question to consider: Which way is worse? If it's a given that this dude is going to park his beast in an area with only compact spots, should he try to cram it into a single spot (which might make both spots on either side unusable, taking three spots total), or straddle the line (taking only two spots total)? The latter seems more offensive to the passerby - that's why I took the photo - but the former is possibly the worse offense. Either way, I'm kinda rooting for that car to get keyed...

I'd root for the car to be keyed, too! Too many SUVs and it's just piggy - there should be an inconvenience to those drivers. If it means walking farther, so be it...
So is there any way to "inconvenience" people who part like this, short of permanently defacing their property? If it's built into the system, we wouldn't have to resort to vigilanteism! For example, at supermarkets in France (I think), you put a coin into a little machine which "dispenses" shopping carts, and you get that same amount back when you put the cart back in its proper storage area. You can leave the cart in the middle of the parking lot if you want, it just costs you that little amount of money. Or, kids looking to make a quick bit of change can return carts left out in the lot and collect the reward. The motivation is built into the system, rather than relying on people being good citizens. It's cynical, but it works...
